On tour from April 2027
New album (his fifth) due for release in September 2027 with Underdogs Records
Hailing from Ipanema, the Carioca João Selva brilliantly embodies the eclectic and vibrant spirit of Brazilian music.
Hailed by France Info as one of its most brilliant ambassadors, he transcends borders by blending a rich array of influences: Angolan semba, Cape Verdean funaná, Caribbean zouk, Congolese rumba, as well as soul, jazz, disco and funk. True to the ‘tropicalismo’ spirit of the 1970s, he reinvents these sounds into an irresistible rhythmic alchemy that is both danceable and dreamlike.
A socially conscious artist, his songs address deforestation, the destruction of nature and the ecological challenges of the modern world. His music enjoys unanimous critical acclaim and a growing international following. His tracks, regularly played on the radio and championed by influential DJs (Guts, Coco Maria, Yuksek, Poirier, JKriv…), have become essential elements of the most eclectic sets.
On stage, accompanied by the quartet that has been with him for around ten years (Patchworks himself on bass, the extraordinary Boris Pokora on saxophone and flute, Paul Charnay on keyboards and Nico Taite on drums), he delivers an electrifying performance in which every concert becomes a collective celebration, a cathartic experience where music unites and transcends.
João Selva has previously taken part in the following events: Mentor at WOMEX 2025 // Official Selection at MAMA 2024 // Official Selection at TALLINN MUSIC WEEK 2023 // Official Selection at WOMEX 2022
